Jam on October 9th
Led by Drew Hill
To open, we played the game “Would you rather?”
Our question for the week: God, what are you really like?
· How do you picture God?
o Youth Answers
§ “I picture God as someone sitting around computers answering prayers.”
§ “I picture God with 50 arms”
§ “I picture God as someone that can multiply themselves”
§ I picture God as someone who makes clones and waits until His inbox gets full of prayers and then says yes to them all”
§ “I picture God seeing us as a snow globe.”
· Why do we need to ask what God is really like?
o Because if we really know what God is like, we couldn’t help but falling in love with Him.
· We then watched a video that was about Jesus calling all the disciples sins out:
o We feel like God is a police man, always accusing us of the things we do wrong.
o We view God like we view our parents.
· How do we find out what God is like?
o Youth Answers
§ “The Bible”
§ “Praying”
o You can look at my daughter and tell a lot of things about me by looking at my child, just like ya’ll look and reflect your parents.
o So we can learn what God is like by looking at His Son.
· Colossians 1:16
· John 1:14
o God came into our world and showed us what He is like.
· Luke 15:1-2
o Jesus welcomes sinners and eats with them
o Youth answer
§ “Jesus is forgiving because He ate with tax collectors”
o Jesus is the only religious figure that hung out with non-religious people.
· God is like a loving parent- He doesn’t want us to do wrong but loves us enough to discipline us so we learn what is right.
· We split up into groups and looked at different passages that shows what Jesus is like
o John 2 shows
§ Jesus honored marriage
§ He had power
§ He can change anything He wants
§ He loves the church
§ He made His glory public
o John 5
§ He loves us
§ He created the rules
§ God heals
§ God has compassion
§ God’s timing is perfect
o John 6
§ He is the bread of life
§ He always has a plan
§ He cares about us
§ He is fulfilling the B attitudes
§ He asks us to give us everything and takes what little we have and makes something big of it.
o All of these passages were chosen because these situations were all hopeless and God takes the hopeless and makes them something great.
o So God can take hopeless situations in our life and bring hope!
· Homework: Go home and read about Jesus, pray God will show you what He’s like by reading about Jesus.
